Jaffa Euphoria Balls

Do you ever set out to make a basic recipe, only to be overwhelmed by an intuitive plea to modify the recipe to such an extent that you manifest an entirely original product?

I was just going to do a basic date, cashew and cacao wafer bliss ball recipe, but then I saw all the other ingredients in the pantry and completely changed my mind.

These delicious bliss balls were the result. The orange oil makes them taste like jaffas and the camu camu powder adds vitamin C.

Fun fact, excess vitamin C gives you the runs. So, if you’ve been eating lots of citrus and start feeling ‘loose’, it’s unlikely that you’ve caught a bug. You’ve probably just flooded your body with this antioxidant vitamin. But I digress, back to the euphoria balls.

They have a gooey caramel texture that pairs foodgasmingly with the rich, crunchy, magnesium-rich cacao nibs and smell like orange butter cookies. Holy Freakin Shizballs Level Delicious!

  • 1.5 cups pitted Medjool dates
  • 1/2 cup cacao nibs
  • 1.5 cups cashews
  • 2 drops food-grade orange essential oil
  • 1 Tablespoon camu camu powder (optional)
  • 1 Tablespoon coconut oil

Method

Add dates, cashews and coconut oil to a food processor. Blitz in stages. Stop machine to scrape sides down as needed. Add cacao nibs, orange oil and camu camu (if using). When you have a sticky mixture, roll heaped spoons of dough into balls. Transfer to a glass container. Refrigerate to set and store chilled for up to a month.

Recipe Notes

Feel free to double, triple or quadruple quantities to yield a larger batch. Don’t exceed more than 2 drops of orange oil, regardless of the batch size – it’s potent, so a wee bit goes a long way.
