Spectacular Soul Saturday: Amber Magna

This week’s Spectacular guest is my mate Amber.

I am always blown away by her down to earth approach to health. At 23, Amber is already moving towards her goal of inspiring the population to give a damn. She has 2 years of Naturopathy under her belt, written an online program called ‘Simply Eat’ and just recently graduated from Kim Morrison’s  HLE programme. On top of these merits, she is one of the kindest, and most generous humans I know!

Meet Amber …

Where did your open-minded adventure begin? Was there a significant event that shifted you into gear, or did your outlook on life simply shift over time?

It was a bit of both! I’ve always been interested in nutrition and considered myself to be healthy, but for a long time I was misguided… I believed that the body was something to be controlled with calories and a low fat diet. I first learned about a more natural way of eating about five years ago and it just clicked that food could be an incredibly powerful tool, rather than something to fear. That was the moment that I began feeling empowered about how I lived and it spiralled from there into other areas of my life.

What drives your enthusiasm for self-care and optimism?

It sounds cliché, but if I’m at my best and kicking goals, I can reach and help more people. I want to walk my talk so that others can see that a healthy life is simple and totally doable. I’ll never advise someone to do something that I wouldn’t be prepared to do myself. I think health needs to be more accessible and I work to make that happen every day by being realistic and helping people to simply do their best, whatever that might be for them.

What keeps you goofy and ‘down to earth’?

Knowing that I will never know enough! My beliefs and knowledge around health are constantly evolving as I learn more and I never want to feel as if there is nothing new to discover. We’re all just doing our best to find the answers and no one really knows anything for sure, so that keeps me from getting caught up in the hype and feeling as if I know it all.

How do you keep exercise FUN?

A walk in nature, always! I’m not big on exercise (probably shouldn’t publicise that as a future naturopath, but hey it’s true!), but I love to be out in the fresh air surrounded by plants.

When it comes to nutrition, what is your philosophy?

It’s all in the attitude! There are a million different ways to be healthy, but if you’re doing one of them and you’re miserable because of it, you won’t be nourished. If something truly makes you happy, keep doing it and if something you hear doesn’t resonate with you or you hate doing it, it’s okay to disagree and do your own thing. Just always be aware of how your body feels and you can’t go wrong.

How do you overcome limiting thoughts and rationalise negativity?

Well firstly I feel any negative thoughts or feelings that come up and try not to feel guilty for having them. Then I remind myself that it’s just a feeling and it’s not necessarily the absolute truth. I just take it with a pinch of salt and try to let it all fall away naturally, really!

Go ahead, inspire us!

You are the authority on you. No one knows you or your body better than you do, so feel confident and make decisions that ultimately work for you, regardless of what others tell you to do.

Thank fast, what are you grateful for right now?

Right now? The sun, my home, having infinite opportunities in life, being able to eat great food whenever I please and I guess the fact that I am alive and breathing!

Make me drool!

This is a recipe that Rachel kindly shared with me and I tailored so that I could add in some essential oils. You can swap the peppermint oil for orange oil or even lime oil and it would still be incredible.
