Eating Disorder Recovery

Eating Disorder Recovery is my calling, my purpose and my heart.

I, Rachel Favilla, am an experienced and holistically-minded nutrition professional with a passion for eating disorder recovery.

My specialty? I prevent (where possible) and heal (where pre-existing) disordered relationships with food, body image and diet culture.

I have a question for you?

Have you noticed that our society has a disordered relationship with nourishment?

Would you care for some examples?

  • The body is regarded as a calculator.
  • Food is treated as an equation.
  • My job title exists (shouldn’t we be our OWN nutritionists?)

Do you know what I find ironic?

Those with disempowering relationships with food and body image are served disempowering treatment protocols.

And yet, we wonder why the relapse rate is so high.

Many Eating Disorder Treatments ARE Disordered.

It is my educated opinion that eating disorder treatment methods – as we’ve come to accept them, are disordered in and of themselves.

They focus too much on numbers, meal plans and weigh-ins.

This is not how I roll.

Instead, I focus on the root cause.

I identify the hidden trauma, fear and subliminal messages that created the need for control in the first place.

Sure, we talk about food. But we don’t rely on calculators or formulate meal plans. We celebrate whole foods and the body’s intelligent ability to turn that fuel into purpose. Our purpose.

How do I work?

Great question. I combine my lived experience of eating disorder recovery with my expertise as a nutrition professional to provide a holistic counselling service that heals the heart, mind and gut.

Who do I work with?

Are you a parent desiring a nurturing role model for your teenager who is beginning to show signs of negative body image, fearful feeding habits or obsessive exercise patterns?

Do you feel bewildered by the overload of dietary information out there, to the point that food is becoming a stressor?

Has an eating disorder diagnosis recently found its way into your life and your are now finding yourself disheartened by the harsh, victim-blaming approach to most treatment programs?

Have you long been riding the rollercoaster of remission and relapse because no one has offered a non-confrontational approach to recovery that you feel safe getting on board with?

If you answered a resounding ‘yes’ to any of these scenarios, then we can most certainly work together.

What does this look like?

This totally depends on your circumstances.

You see, I’ll meet you (or your child) where you (they) are at.

I combine nutritional counselling with genuine conversations about my own recovery. I provide evidence-informed guidance about nutritional medicine and emotional healing.

My approach is non-judgemental and non-threatening.

Eating disorders are rarely easy to discuss and I pride myself on my ability to make you (or your child) feel at ease. In fact, I can almost guarantee that healing will involve banter and genuine laughter.

Nutrition isn’t just about the food we consume. It is about everything we consume; experiences, information and energies.

When you work with me, we look at your life timeline and everything that makes up glorious you.

What do I exclude?

You are an original and will be treated as an individual.

Forget BMI calculations designed to put you in a box.

Bid farewell to one-size-fits-all meal plans that stand to only further traumatise your sensitive tummy.

And DEFINITELY no victim-blaming.

Eating Disorders are NOT a choice.

You (or your child) did not choose this.

And this is not your (or your child’s) fault.

If anyone has told you otherwise, they simply didn’t understand.

The setting

I offer sessions online or over the phone.

If we’ve met in the community or you’ve been referred to me by someone I trust, we can organise a face-to-face consult in the comfort of your home. I even offer walking catch ups, where we go for a walk and do your consult on foot. Two birds, one stone. I do love efficiency.

Energetic Exchange

75-minute initial consult – $150*

1 hour (follow-up) – $100

30 minutes (follow-up) – $50**

*includes a copy of my first book; an educational resource bursting full of information and recipes to humorously guide and enchant you on your quest to life-long health. If you owned a copy of my book before our first session, you will receive your choice of my three eBooks instead.

**This option will not include an updated treatment plan. It is a short appointment for you to receive support and ask specific questions that pop up in between more comprehensive follow up consultations.

The Boring But Important Stuff

Please note that some overtime charges may apply.

If we go overtime between 1 and 9 minutes, you will not be charged extra (because these things happen). An extra $20 for every minute over 10 minutes and $30 for every minute minute over 20 applies.

I will make every effort to prevent us from going overtime. I’m just putting this in writing so that if for some unforeseeable reason, you need a little extra time, it doesn’t get awkward.

Last minute cancellations (less than 12 hours) may incur a cancellation fee, depending on your situation.

I am happy to gift you a complementary phone call before you book where you can ask questions and get to know me a little better. I want you to feel comfortable working with me before you make the investment in what I can offer you. If you’d like this complementary service, please just let me know when you get in contact.

Please keep in mind that these calls are only a space to ask me questions about how I work. We will dive into YOUR history in the first consult.
