Oh. Moi. Gawsh. I am bursting with enthusiasm  to share this weeks guest. In fact, I am this close to wetting my pants. Lols was my very first role model in the world of food and is most definitely the ‘Steve Irwin’ of fruits and veggies. She has written three beautiful books; Inspiring ingredients, The 20/20 Diet and The 20/20 Diet Cookbook (and she has a fourth book on the way in 2015 -yes!)

You can track her down on Youtube channel, or website (or Instagram account … search @yummololaberry) and she regularly appears in the media spreading a message of kind, vibrant living.

Spectacular Soul Saturday: Sam Gowing

Today’s guest is Sen-fucking-sational Spa Chef; Sam Gowing.

Sam is working hard to bridge the gap between mainstream and health-based dining, and is Australia’s leading spa chef – designing menu’s for some of the countries top-rating retreats. Not just handy in the kitchen, Sam has a bachelor degree in nutritional medicine and runs the company Gowings: Food. Health. Wealth. If that’s not enough she was a regular presenter on health talks (which I go into more detail about here), which is where I first come across her work in the first place.

Spectacular Soul Saturday

This is the first of a new blog series: Spectacular Soul Saturday. Each week I’ll ask ‘everyday heroes’ for wise tidbits on how to live a glorious life. I doubt I’ll keep this up forever, but for the next little while I’ve got some groovy spud muffins to share with y’all.

I myself am a sucker for Q & A’s, so to kick-start things I’ve interviewed myself*. I’m humble and private like that.

Keep it real Sonny Jims, and have a fan-bloody-tabulous Saturday!

*Update 2018: I have re-jigged my responses to reflect the person I’ve grown into. I needed a bucket when I read my 18-year-old self’s answers. Cute, but cliched and NOT fun. The humour and candid bowel-health promotion was missing, so I rectified things a little.

Lets Get Physical!

Lets be honest, you didn’t read the title of this post you sang it.

Yes, the title of this blog post does have some questionable connotations, and whilst my tartish mind can’t help but wander to visualising tight lycra and sexy aerobic moves as I read it, I can assure you that all we are talking about today is functional movement. Come to think of it, that sounds suggestive too. Maybe I should just get to the main point before things get too exciting.

Today I really want to write about exercise, specifically why it is NOT something to be dreaded!

Pull On Your Happy Pants!

Happiness,

image

For me happiness is a massive belly laugh with my dear amigos or Mamma Bear. It’s a refreshing dip in the ocean. It’s when my morning smoothie is particularly on point. It’s straight after a large and completely satisfying morning dump.

Like many of my more philosophical articles, this post isn’t based on research or anyone else’s truth but my own, but I think I’ve got a pretty relatable insight so please stay with me.

Serve Me A Suggestion

I love food (if that isn’t obvious already)!

I also love spending time in the kitchen experimenting or simply whipping up classic favourites.

However … there are times when I’m just not in the mood to cook (I can be very impatient when I’m hungry) and just want something fast and delicious.

That is where I love serving suggestions. Not in the sense of processed packaged pseudo-foods or microwave dinners, but rather where you just combine a few, fresh, tasty ingredients to create the most amazing flavour combinations with impressive nutritional profiles.

Let me share with you some of the ‘serving suggestions’ that I have been loving lately.

Graitude Journal moments and finding the blessing

Gratitude.

Often forgotten in our western world. Amidst the rapid pace of life and sufferance of first world problems (like wi-fi continuously dropping out or forgetting to make ice cubes – the struggles are real) it’s easy to overlook the multitude of blessings that most of us take for granted.

When I’m overwhelmed or exhausted, I rarely stop and count my (for lack of a less spiritual word) ‘blessings’.

Watch those thoughts

Do you have a brain that just never seems to switch off? I do. Most of the time this is useful. After all, the more thoughts and ideas I have, the more chance I have of having mental breakthroughs in both my personal and professional life. Like the day I realised that Mum’s chicken madras was a ticket aboard the poop satisfaction train. Excuse me whilst I go curry.

Having an active mind helps me research quicker, write essays faster and solve problems more efficiently. I get some of my best ideas when I am out on a walk or a jog, or in the shower – nothing like  comforting steam for warming up the ole’ brain cells (or perhaps I think more clearly when I’m naked – yes that’s it). An active mind is a productive mind. Most of the time.
