Stay Well This Winter (no supplements required!)

Most of us see a cold, flu or sniffle and an inevidable part of the Winter season. I used to think it was the cold weather that made us more susceptible. Not directly apparently. It actually has far more to do with how our lifestyles change in Winter. We spend more time inside, so we’re breathing in more recycled air, thats likely full of germs. The heating systems don’t do much to help and can dry out our mucous membranes (remember that mucous is one of our first lines of defence against pathogens).

We may become more sedentary, as we think it’s too dark, cold and miserable to get outside. This also means we’re getting less Vitamin D – a hormone that has immune-modulating effects. Then there’s the craving for comfort foods that might be a bit stodgier and less nutritious that our Summer and Spring cravings for smoothies and vibrant salads.

“Banana-Cake Batter” In-A-Jar Dessert

I don’t always use the phrase “BOMB DIGGITY”, but when I do it’s because of taste sensations like this super-easy dessert “parfait”.

This baby only features two ingredients, but the technique and uh-maz-zing flavour combo is the absolute shizzle, I’m not even exaggerating when I say that it honestly tastes like banana cake batter. Who doesn’t love eating cake batter by the spoonful?

It’s Not All Doom and Gloom

If you’re listening to health-conscious thought-leaders and paying attention to the media sources daring to inform us of  inconvenient truths, then chances are you’re at least vaguely aware that we are living in a pretty toxic world.

Safely Kicking Goals

In my last post, I wrote about how after years of being sceptical about the gym environment, I now find myself shamelessly addicted and quite the convert. I admitted that my scepticism came from my preconceived ideas about gym-buff stereotypes and not liking some of the trends that sweep through the fitness industry.

I never thought I’d become a gym junkie!

Keeping in theme with 2017 – the year of fun! Today I’m talking about recent obsession; the Les Mills classes at my local gym.

I never thought I had it in me to become a gym junkie (or whatever the correct title is for someone addicted to group atmospheres and endorphin rushes),  yet here I am, quite the convert. I’ve always preferred outdoor sports; jogging, walking, hiking, swimming and team sports, such as netball and tennis. Sure I played badminton indoors in eighth grade, became quite a stickler for my fave pilates DVD, and wasn’t opposed to using the treadmill on rainy days, but that was the extent of my ‘indoor training’.

I had this stigma that gyms are for people that …

Sneaky Work-outs

Two and a bit years ago I wrote this post about bringing the motivation and fun back to exercise. This was when I first started blogging and I sure could rave on (to the point where just reading the damn post was a work-out for the optic nerves!!!).

These days, where possible, I’m trying to cut my posts down so you can just read them – get the gist, implement what you want, and get on with your day.

5 Easy Rituals for a Better Day

Oh how I love me a good ritual. They take ordinary tasks to the next level and remind me to take some time for myself, even if it’s just a few minutes out of a whole, full, busy day. Below are my 5 favourite quick and easy rituals that don’t really take any extra time out of your day (maybe a minute here or there at the most!), but will leave you feeling uber pumped and full of warm fuzzies!

2 weeks of napping, walking and semi-fasting

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, then you probably already know me quite well (let’s be honest I don’t really hold back). You know that I love coconut cream smoothies and roast pumpkin (but can’t eat them right now because I’m starving parasites of their sugar-energy). You know I love my morning run (and am NOT a very kind person without my morning endorphin hit). You know (at least at the moment) I do daily enemas (and actually enjoy them).
